Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is your ratio?

We believe in small teacher to child ratios and maintain a 1:5 ratio and at busiest times have a 1:6 ratio. This ensures we can be active participants in each child’s lives, engaging with them at their level.

  • What age group do you serve?

We welcome children ages 18 months to 6 years-old.

  • Does our child need to be potty-trained?

No, your child does not have to be potty-trained to attend A New Day Learning House. We do two official “potty breaks” during the day which includes time to change diapers/pull-ups. We also change children on an as-needed basis. When you and your child are ready to potty-train, let us know and we will support you.

  • Do you accept subsidies?

Yes. We accept Working Connections Child Care or other subsidy. Families remain responsible for their copayment and any charges permitted under program rules and their written agreement. We do not promise a subsidy rate or eligibility. Payment plans must be documented in writing

Yes. We are a fully licensed in home childcare facility. For more information on the Washington State laws which apply, see the Parent Handbook under Forms.

  • Do you provide snacks and lunch?
  • Do you serve nuts?

Yes. As long as we do not have a child enrolled who has a nut allergy, we do serve a variety of nut butters. Including sunflower, peanut, almond and pistachio.

  • What does tuition cover?

We know childcare is expensive and rest assured, the hard-earned money you give us supports us in providing the highest quality care for your child. With 2000 square feet of storage in our main home, A New Day’s materials, toys and activities are cycled through on a weekly basis. This ensures your child never has a dull moment during free choice or structured activities. We also take your children’s space as a dedicated home away from home and safety is always our first priority. From 9” of wood chips under the playground to keeping ink in our printer for mandated postings, part of your tuition goes to keeping up to date with licensing requirements. This includes the behind the scenes aspects of A New Day as well. We clean and sanitize after your little ones have left for the day. After hours, you’ll find us buying pull-down curtains with no dangling cords, rotating out materials, cooking homemade meals and curriculum planning. Paying the monthly tuition year-round insures we keep our doors open and available to you on a consistent basis. The tuition supports us in supporting your child.

  • How is your daycare different?

We wanted a dedicated space to give to this cause which was self-supporting and independent of our family’s home upstairs. Our downstairs space was built with its own kitchen, bathroom, full-size laundry room 4 living spaces and plenty of storage. We furnished and decorated it to be child-sized so your children could walk into the doors knowing this was a place of their very own. For our own peace of mind, we added another tankless water heater, outdoor hot water hose, furnace, wired-in generator (for those winter storms), and a security system (backed by Ringcams) to A New Day Learning House. This not only creates a separation from our family’s home, it creates a “school-like” atmosphere and turns A New Day Learning House into more than an in-home daycare. Children come into A New Day without feeling like they are visiting someone else’s home; instead they have their own dedicated space to call their own! With extensive backgrounds in child psychology, teaching and family therapy, we vet and hire only the most qualified assistants. Good communication is one of our core values and is the foundation of our work with children. You get to watch your child grow and thrive with daily updates through our app. We also strive to make your life as easy as possible. You can drop your child off and know they are being cared for while you are at work (or play). We have the extra rain jacket, the freshly laundered nap mat and warm meal waiting to nourish your child while you are away. In short, you can count on us to make the best choices for your child…one moment and tiny footstep at a time.

  • When do you operate?

A New Day is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm. We are closed major holidays as well as one full week during the winter and summer. See our Parent Handbook for a full explanation of days of operation.

  • How much is tuition?

Tuition is one monthly rate year-round and ranges from $1100 monthly to $1920 monthly depending upon enrollment (3 days per week versus 5 days per week) and the age of the child. Please see Tuition for a breakdown of costs. `

  • How do you prepare for Kindergarten?

Once our little ones are ready for the transition to Kindergarten, our curriculum includes taking more time with them to focus more on pre-academic foundational skills, such as reading, writing and math, as well as critical thinking, social development and problem-solving abilities. We meet with primary caregivers to discuss areas of child development to support your child with this transition. This may include a variety of different specific skill sets, including number and letter recognition as well as social skills such as turn-taking.
